The 2009 Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) attracted 129,819 visitors. A total of 977 booths and exhibitions participated.
The 2009 Tokyo Anime Awards winners were announced at the event:
Anime of the Year (Japan release)Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
Open Entries Grand Prize (new talent award)Heiko van der Scherm for Descendants.
Feature Film of the YearPonyo on the Cliff by the Sea directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

Macross Frontier
Best Original Video Animations (OVAs) Detroit Metal City directed by Toshio Lee.
Best International AnimeKung Fu Panda directed by John Wayne Stevenson and Mark Osborne.
Best DirectorHayao Miyazaki for Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.
Best Original StoryHayao Miyazaki for Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.
