2012 Tokyo Game Show

posted by Emiko, Japan Talk, April 06, 2012

The 2012 Tokyo Game Show (TGS) will take place September 20 - 23 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The theme of the show will be "Spreading smiles through games". As always, the last two days of the event will be open to the public.

The focus of the event will be new platforms (such as tablets) and social gaming. There will also be an expanded cosplay area.

The event will mark the 22nd TGS. Attendance has increased dramatically in recent years (even in 2011 after the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami). The 2012 event promises to be big.

Several exhibition areas are planned:

■ General Exhibition Area
■ Asia New Stars Area (hot new video game companies in Asia)
■ PC Game Area
■ Smartphone Game Area/Social Game Area
■ Game Device Area
■ Family Area (family-oriented video games)
■ Merchandise Sales Area
■ Game School Area
■ Business Solution Area
