We did a little research with and interviews with Japanese fans to determine the most famous Japanese characters of all time (most popular with Japanese people). Many of the characters are from shows that were on Japanese TV for many years.

You can be sure that all the characters on the list are known by almost everyone in Japan. Despite the current popularity of Japanese anime and manga around the world many of the characters on the list are not well known outside Japan.
