A Mysterious Look at Old Japan

posted by Dave, Japan Talk, November 11, 2011

Japan was a topic of great curiosity in the West at the end of the 19th century. Western photographers such as T. Enami documented Japanese life at this fascinating time in Japanese history.

These stereoviews are a rare glimpse at 19th century Japan — a world that was never captured on film (until 1897).

Geisha and Maiko were a favorite subject.

Hi !!My name is Fanny, I'm a french girl, and I'm 19 years old. I live near Paris since I'm 1 year old, but actually, and until June, I'm living in Dublin, in Ireland. I'm just going home for the holidays. In France I'm studying Literature at university, but here in Ireland I'm an au pair : I live in a Irish family, and I take care of the children, who are really cute but sometimes really tiring... So i'm a little big like their big sister, I'm taking care of them during the week, well not during all the week, they are at school during the morning, so I have to take care of them during the afternoons. But during the week-ends... I'm totally free so I can go into Dublin to shopping, have fun with my friends...I really loooooooooove shopping, especially clothes and cute things... My poor bedroom is full of cute things ^^I really should like to have a penpal from Japan, because I think that it's a wonderful country, my wish is to go and visit one day !!! So if you want to be my penpal, don't hesitate, I will be very happy to have someone of another country to speak with, about everything, music, movies, books, shopping, clothes, everything !!!! And maybe that we can be good friends, and exchange real letters with pictures, small gifts...Anyway I can speak English or French, I can speak about France and Ireland, and you can teach me some japanese or speak about Japan...Hope to hear from you soon !Fanny
