The Mysterious Bar Signs of Japan

posted by John Spacey, Japan Talk, March 27, 2012

There are more than 80,000 bars in Japan (and more than 25,000 bars in Tokyo alone). Many of these establishments are incredibly small places with mysterious signs.

Which one would you pick?

When you get a little closer the messages become all the more mysterious.

It's tempting to try bars at random. However, this is likely to get expensive fast. Most have a seating charge. It could also be dangerous. While the vast majority of Japanese bars are safe: some aren't.

The best way to explore the world of Japan's small bars is to find a friend who knows the landscape. These bars advertise badly for a reason — they survive by building a network of loyal customers who introduce their friends to the bar.

Mayra
私達がよい友人になってもいいことをHi.I AM Mayraおよび私は望む。Im Mayra Ambriz aka XxAnimeFreakxX.I'm basicly the only girl anime freak in the school cause no other girl knows more than me.They say the do but they don't and they don't know when the conventions are in Houston or what me and my anime freak homeboys be talking about.I'm 15.Wohoo!!I'm getting old enough to drink and drive XD!!I use to have black hair but I kept burning it with the flat iron and so now its brown. That was a big my bad lol.I have pretty brown eyes that always seem watery. Is that normal?I'm from Mexico, yeah I got lucky, but people think i'm Asian.Maybe because i'm asain in my own little way but I don't see how I look like one.I'm 5 feet 4 inches tall,a normal average girl.No special abilities but drawing anime and computer hacking -_- im so boring at times lol.I'm the kind of girls who likes to do boy things and sometimes girly stuff(like talk about boys, and do my hair scene,my nails black, and shopping for black clothes),but mostly boy stuff.Thats why I don't talk to girls alot.Cause they can be hagging and bitchy.I can be like that too sometimes,if ppl make me lol.But I have no problem being treated as one of the boys, cause I like it like that.Currently i am learning japanese so that I can onde day travel to japan and explore the land.I love everything about asian customs would be happy to one day go for a festival. But im just a beginner so im not that good yet lol thats why im looking for people who can help me with my japanese.
