Daikanyama: A Chill Neighborhood (Tokyo Style)

posted by John Spacey, Japan Talk, June 19, 2012

South of Shibuya's lights and chaotic crowds is a chill neighborhood of upscale shops, cafes and bars: Daikanyama.

Daikanyama is one of Tokyo's top residential areas. It's known for its embassies that add a international touch to the area.

Daikanyama has a lot of green space and is known as a good place to see the sunset and Mount Fuji. There are two parks in the area: Saigoyama Park and Sugekari Park.

Daikanyama is part of Shibuya-ku. It borders similarly upscale residential areas — Nakameguro, Hiro and Ebisu. The streets of Daikanyama tend to be quiet.

There are small offices in the area. Many residents of Daikanyama work in nearby Ebisu Garden Place.
