Does japan have nuclear weapons?

posted by John Spacey, Japan Talk, August 23, 2012

Japan has many nuclear scientists. Several of Japan's major companies build nuclear reactors. Japan could easily build nuclear weapons but they don't.

The reason? Japan is the only country to have experienced a nuclear bombing. Japan was bombed twice in 1945 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This resulted in the death of about 246,000 people.

Japan has also experience a major domestic nuclear disaster — Fukushima.

Anti-nuclear sentiment is very strong in Japan. The citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have become international advocates of nuclear disarmament. Consider this art from one of the survivors of the Nagasaki nuclear bombing.
