Tokyo locals know that Inokashira Park is a good place for a Sunday afternoon date in fair weather.



It's also well known that couples who rent a boat in the park's large pond break up.



There's a temple overlooking the pond dedicated to Benzaiten the goddess of water, beauty, words, music and knowledge. According to the urban legend Benzaiten becomes jealous of lovers in the pond and curses them.











Despite the persistent legend — the boat rentals remain popular. Especially during hanami season.
