January 2010 Tokyo Fashion Report
posted by Clara, Japan Talk, December 14, 2011
Seijin no Hi (coming of age day) is celebrated on the second Monday of January by all Japanese who've turned 20 in the previous year.
The girls dress formally in Furisode Kimono (expensive). Furisode is a style of Kimono worn by young women. The arms of the Furisode Kimono are very long. They symbolize that a unmarried women is old enough to wed.
Usually, the girls out-dress the guys on Seijin no Hi. Guys often wear a Western style suit. This year there were more guys in kimono.
Switching gears, here's some creepy cosplay in Harajuku.
Casual winter styles around the city. Here a woman shops in Ginza. Ginza is perhaps the most famous upscale shopping district in Asia.
Ladies' camera club.
High fashion shot. Streaks of grey was a fad amongst Japanese youth in the late 1990s.

 | Emily I am a 23 year old Graphic DesignerPhotographer. I have a strong interest in and appreciation for Japanese art, music, fashion and culture (both current and historical.) I plan to make a trip to Japan in the near future (possibly next year.) I would like to learn some of the language before I go! I have been teaching a bit myself, but nothing past basic greetings and the like. I would love learning about the language from a native speaker and make some friends as well ^__^

 | amanda I am really into fashion i love the many different styles out there and hope to become a fashion designer with my own label and clothing line. I would like to go to study in Japan for a couple of years. The language and writing have always been fasinating to me. I would like to meet someone here who would want to help me improve and learn the little i know and study now. I just would love to be able to talk to someone in Japan so to learn the language would be a plus. I also want to talk to all the people of the world. I do like anime but i dont go overboard. I love to socialize with people and talking to them is always fun to meet someone new.

Everyone likes Japanese hot spring baths (onsen). In fact, Japanese people are obsessed with them and foreign visitors almost always enjoy the experience.
