Japanese Hearses

posted by John Spacey, Japan Talk, February 22, 2012

Japanese hearses have Buddhist style wooden structures built into the back of the car. These resemble small Buddhist temples.

Often the wheel base isn't extended. A large Japanese, German or American sedan is modified with the wooden temple structure. Hearses are designed to carry coffins and urns.

American style hearses are also widely used in Japan. American cars such as Lincoln Town Car are often specially imported for this purpose (these models are rare in Japan).
