Sangenjaya Samba Festival

posted by Akiko, Japan Talk, January 01, 2012

The Sangenjaya Samba Festival (Sancha de Samba) was a small summer Samba festival held between 2004-2008. It was tiny compared to the Asakusa Samba festival but lively nonetheless.

Sangenjaya (Sancha) is a trendy residential neighborhood in Tokyo's populous Setagaya ward. It's fairly close to Shibuya.

The fact that there are multiple summer Samba festivals in Tokyo illustrates the strong cultural ties between Japan and Brazil. No word if there are plans to resume this festival in the future.
