It's Super Hero Time in Japan

posted by John Spacey, Japan Talk, March 22, 2012

Super Hero Time (スーパーヒーロータイム) is a slot on TV Asahi (nationally broadcast in Japan).

Every Sunday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 the channel plays new episodes of two popular superhero series: Super Sentai (also known as Power Rangers) and Kamen Rider.

Children and otaku all over the country wake early on Sunday mornings for their superhero fix. Super Hero Time has been in the same time slot since 2003. However, the hour dates back all the way to the late 1960s.

The hour was originally slotted for children's educational programming. Over the years, superhero shows such as Warrior of Love Rainbowman were included in the hour. Today, the hour is always Power Rangers followed by Kamen Rider.
