As with most industry trade shows in Japan, the first two days of the four day event are open to industry insiders and the press. The final two days are open to the public. Real business goes on at the Tokyo Game Show — new games and hardware are announced. Contracts are signed. Some areas of the conference aren't accessible to the public.
Around 200,000 people attend the show each year. The show features 100s of exhibits (booths) in multiple halls. The booths are normally staffed with attractive models known as booth babes.
Photographers show up in droves for a chance to photograph the models at the show.
Many attendees choose to cosplay at the event. The cosplayers hang around outside waiting to be photographed. The event also provides an official cosplay area.
