Why is everything in Japan so cute?

Japan has a kawaii (cute) culture. It's getting cuter all the time.

Sociologists might say that it's escapism. Artists might say it's one of the Japanese aesthetic ideals. The simple truth is that Japanese people just like cute stuff.

It's Big Business

It's gotten to the point where it's impossible to sell a product in Japan unless it's cute. It's one of the many reasons foreign products don't sell well in Japan.

It's Not Just Japan

Japan's status as the king of all things cute helps Japanese companies to sell products around the World. Cute products are particularly popular in Asia.

Cute JPop bands are just as popular in countries such as Singapore as they are in Japan.
