Yoshida Shrine has a close relationship with Kyoto University. It's said to protect the university. Many students go to the shrine to pray for academic success.
The shrine is also dedicated to sake. Sake producers in the area pray for success in business.
The shrine is off the beaten path (few tourists). It's a pleasant place for quiet reflection. There are a few short hiking trails behind the shrine that go up Mount Yoshida. There are (expensive) houses in the area.
