I think it depends on the context. I would say absolutely not during the first meeting. But if for example, you were interested in learning the specific etiquette of wine or sake drinking; then it would be relevant to the lesson, much in the same way that you bring brush, ink and paper to a calligraphy class.

I'd have to say it entirely depends on the situation. Like Kuranosuke mentioned, if you are learning or teaching let's say how to drink sake and the intention is good and you DO NOT GET BUZZED then it should be fine as long as both parties consent and it's legal.

However, drinking alcohol while teaching anything that isn't related to alcohol would be wrong.

I do not think so... perhaps yes, alcohol can prevent your nervousness but I think alcohol won't make you absorb well all materials you are studying at that time. Additionally, drinking alcohol while studying or speaking with someone you should respect is obviously impolite

If you're likely to want to talk to people in your new language at bars, then it makes sense, does it not?
It can also help if you're a nervous person who needs to be "doing something" while socialising.

It could loosen up your personality as well as your mind. I know if you are knowing what you are doing and responsible, then you should be able to deal with the consequences. I would LOVE to drink while learning a new language, I would simply make sure it's the right time and place.
