In Japan Even Religion is Cute

posted by Emiko, November 03, 2011

Japanese temples and shrines are peaceful places of natural beauty.

They're also cute because of these guys.

They're called Jizou — bodhisattva's who have achieved enlightenment but choose to stay on Earth until everyone has been saved.
There are countless Jizou in Japan. They're thought to save and protect.
There are thousands of types of Jizou. Each type serves a different function. For example, some protect children. Others help the poor, help those who've been damned or protect fishermen.

People give them hats and bibs.

Some are more stylish than others.
